New Hire Benefits Guide

A. Retirement Plans

Mandatory FRS Retirement Plan (Must Select One)

You are required to enroll in one of the following retirement plans:

  • Florida Retirement System (FRS) Pension Plan
  • Florida Retirement System (FRS) Investment Plan
  • State University System Optional Retirement Program (SUSORP)

Important Deadlines:

  • SUSORP: Must enroll within the first 90 days of employment
  • FRS Pension or Investment: Election must be completed by 4:00 p.m. on the last business day of the 8th month following your month of hire

Voluntary Retirement Plans (Optional – Enroll at Any Time)

  • FAU Sponsored 403(b) Plan
    Enroll directly with a provider: 403(b) Plan Providers
  • State of Florida Sponsored 457(b) Plan
    Enrollment through the Florida Department of Financial Services:

B. State of Florida Benefits – People First

People First is the Benefits Administrator for the State of Florida.

  • Must enroll within the first 60 days of hire date
  • You will receive your People First ID and password by mail
